Creating Pocket Libraries

In 2009, Seattle7Writers donated over 300 books to the YWCA to help stock the library in the children’s room at their women/children’s Seattle shelter, and to the Treehouse for Kids.

In 2010, we have collected and donated books to Seattle Education Access (SEA), a higher education advocacy organization; ROOTS, a shelter for homeless young adults; and the Pat Graney Organization, for the women’s work release program. These books have added to or created “pocket libraries” in order to provide free access to books to children and adults.

Our goal was to collect and deliver 1,500 books by the end of 2010. With the help of our friends at local independent book stores as well as individuals, we have achieved that goal with 1,740 books! Our stretch goal of 2,000 books is now in our sights.

Many thanks to our generous donors:
